If you’re thinking of bringing your family out to Blue Ridge and looking for an awesome family-friendly hike, we highly recommend the Fall Branch Falls hike.
Fall Branch Falls
This is a must do hike for the entire family! You’ll immediately see why it’s an extremely popular trek for visitors and locals alike. Emerald green Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron line the half-mile, moderately easy trail to the beautiful falls . Benches have been placed all along the trail so you can stop and soak in the beauty of Mother Nature all around you.
This out and back trail is only a mile round trip (or you can extend it- see below), so it’s an excellent choice for those with kiddos.
Dogs on leashes are welcome as well!
What to Expect on the Fall Branch Falls Hike
This is an easy family and dog friendly hike located south of Blue Ridge, GA along the Bentont MacKaye Trail. The route, which leaves direct from the trailhead parking area, takes you directly to the bottom of the falls where there is viewing platform. From here, you can admire the glistening cascades of white water surging down the 100-foot rock cliff.
Parking: Park along Stanley Creek Road (also known as Rock Creek Road) near the kiosk for the trailhead. Parking is free.
Make a Day of It: More Hiking on the BMT Trail
If you’re looking for a longer hike, you can add 6 miles (one way) to this hike. Just continue beyond the falls northward on the Benton MacKaye Trail towards Rocky Mountain. Start a long climb where you’ll pass several gardens of the delicate Pink Lady Slipper orchids, groves of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron as well as vibrant Flame Azaleas. Rock cairns mark the remains of an old homestead site. Soon you’ll start a long downhill over Scroggin Knob to the Weaver Creek Road parking area.
Be sure to take the side trail (adjacent to the Rocky Mountain sign) to the top of the mountain. It’s the perfect picnic spot and, when the trees are bare, the views from here are fabulous!
