Finding Restaurant Nirvana in Blue Ridge, Georgia: Harvest on Main

Our aim when you come to stay with us at Kick Back Rentals is to provide an elevated vacation rental experience. That includes letting you know about the best that the local town has to offer!

If it’s fresh, local, farm-to-table food you’re after, in a warm lodge atmosphere, then look no further than Harvest on Main. Here, a nationally recognized chef uses local ingredients to make amazing “globally inspired southern food.”

Their menu, which includes tasty dishes such as Three Cheese Charred Corn & Bacon Queso, Locally Farmed Rainbow Trout, and Tortelloni Puttanesca, is globally influenced with a southern twang. The owners are farmers themselves (of the aptly named Cooks Farm), sourcing ingredients from both their farm and local farmers and suppliers such as Logan Turnpike Mill, Mercier Orchards, Brasstown Beef, Bramlett Farm Trout, The Chef’s Garden, Springer Mountain Chicken, and Foster’s Produce. We are proud of our local farmers and suppliers.

The food is fresh, delicious, and won’t leave you feeling heavy or overly full. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and purely Blue Ridge!

The brains behind the outfit are Michelle Moran, A 20-year veteran food writer and researcher, and founding Chef/Owner Danny Mellman.

The History of Harvest on Main

According to Danny and Michelle, it was love at first sight. They were captivated by the Blue Ridge Mountains as they drove up to Georgia from Florida, and their love of the town sealed the deal. The first time they walked down the streets of Blue Ridge, walking their dogs in the park and sitting on the grass, they fell in love with the town, reminding them both of the places in which they’d grown up.

All of a sudden, they knew they had to move to Blue Ridge and open a restaurant there. It was 2009, and the city had just approved the sale of beer and wine. Not to be deterred, they were set on serving the town with fresh, local ingredients regardless of whether or not they could sell alcohol at the restaurant.

At first, they thought that Michelle would simply continue to write and lead her editorial director roles from a small office in town, helping Danny every now and then with marketing and a few busy lunch and dinner rushes. They thought it would take a little time for a “sit-down, more upscale” restaurant to find its footing in the region, but the popularity of the restaurant exploded, and both Danny and Michelle are heavily involved in the day to day operations.

As their quest for farm fresh products continued, it was more difficult to find farmers than they originally thought. So, they began to think about more space for their own gardens and possibly a teaching garden where Michelle could spend her time passing on to kids her love of creating. In 2014, they purchased a property downtown and turned it into the now 30-acre The Cook’s Farm where they started their annual Summer Kids Farm-to-Fork Camp.
